E45 The Way of the Sun from Sicily to the North Pole

camper Sicily North PoleThe E45 Road, also known as the Sun Route, is one of the longest, most fascinating and scenic arterial roads in Europe. Extending 5195 kilometers from Gela, Sicily, to Nordkapp, the northernmost point in Norway, it practically reaches the Arctic Circle.

The Via del Sole in its entirety is more than just a road route, it is a journey through the heart of Europe, from one end to the other, passing through different nations, different cultures and of course breathtaking views. The beauty of traveling by car (or minibus or, why not, motorcycle) also offers the possibility of being able to stop as long as you want and where you want so that you savor every mile of this mythical road.

An adventure not for everyone

It will be necessary to relieve yourself with another driver. Covering so many miles behind the wheel is not an everyday thing and obviously not for everyone. You have to have a lot of stamina to be driving so many hours.

For campers, this is a real initiation rite. After this trip you can truly claim to have toured Europe without fear of being proven wrong. The journey from Sicily to the North Pole by RV offers a unique opportunity to explore the richness of European history, the natural beauty and the hospitality of the people along the way.

Leave nothing to chance. Before embarking on this RV adventure, careful planning is essential. Making sure the RV is in excellent condition, planning stops, checking travel regulations across countries, and making sure you have everything you need for a comfortable trip are key steps.

Crosses the Italic Boot

The journey along the E45 Road begins at Gela extreme south of Europe, from the Sicilian city washed by the Mediterranean Sea, the tip of that marvelous boot called Italy, from here we head ever northward, through the regions of the south to the Tuscan hills, and further up beyond the Alps, crossing the Dolomites to reach Austria. One of the most spectacular stops on the RV route is actually crossing the Alps. Stops at alpine campgrounds always offer a chance to enjoy nature and rest after a day of travel

Austria and Germany, by motorhome in the heart of Europe

Once across the Italian border, the E45 road winds its way through Austria and Germany, offering travelers views of the imposing Austrian Alps and the opportunity to stop in charming Bavarian cities. The beauty of RVing is just that, being able to decide to stop and rest wherever you want. Remember that this adventure is not a speed race. Never take chances, when you are tired stop and rest.

Denmark and Sweden: the important thing is not the destination, but the journey

North Pole CamperLeaving Austria and Germany behind, the E45 road continues through Denmark and Sweden. The pleasant Danish countryside is an excellent opportunity to stop and relax for a while before heading into the vast Swedish forests. After all, we chose the Camper for that very reason, right?

Also Copenhagen and Stockholm, iconic cities along the route, are ideal for making a stop with a cultural, culinary or historical background, making the journey even more fulfilling.

Destination North Pole, freedom is a way to travel

Finland is the last country crossed by the E45., once we cross the border we will finally be close to our destination. Nordkapp, literally North Cape is the final destination, from now on you can decide your own stops and how many other places to visit. The freedom that Camper travel offers is priceless. Norway, with its coastal roads and Nordic landscapes, is the perfect conclusion to such a trip. Stopping at a campsite and waking up to the spectacular view of the fjords is, after all, one of the reasons for such a long and adventurous trip. The enchanting fjords and Finnish mountains reflected in the crystal clear waters.

The capital city of Oslo and the city of Bergen. Surrounded by fjords are the last two recommended stops to learn about culture before reaching the destination Nordkapp, the northernmost point in Europe.

Travel Tips:
